Botanical Calm Meets Color Therapy
Some paintings begin with an idea. Others begin with a feeling. A Study in Pink began with both — a quiet urge to create something that could hold softness and structure at the same time. Something that felt like peace, but still shimmered with presence.
This four-part series features a Peace Lily, a Monstera, an Aloe Vera, and a Chinese Money Plant, each centered in their own pink-tiled world. The backgrounds are soft but precise — pink ceramic squares that evoke bathrooms of the past, spa sanctuaries, healing spaces, and quiet domestic corners. The tiles bring order. The plants bring life. And between the two, I’ve woven threads of gold — both literally, through shimmering accents, and emotionally, as an invitation to find something sacred in the everyday.
The Language of Plants
Each plant was chosen not only for its shape and beauty, but for what it symbolizes:
The Peace Lily speaks to healing, renewal, and inner stillness. It was the first to be painted and set the tone for the rest — graceful, resilient, and pure.
The Monstera brings boldness and presence. With its iconic split leaves and deep green tones, it represents growth that is wild yet beautiful — a reminder that not all progress is tidy.
The Aloe Vera carries a natural sense of protection and restoration. It’s a plant of care — for others, but also for ourselves.
The Chinese Money Plant, with its round, coin-like leaves, symbolizes prosperity and balance. It’s quirky, hopeful, and quietly radiant.
Each is centered — literally and metaphorically — inviting the viewer to pause, connect, and reflect.
Why Pink?
Pink has long fascinated me as a color of contradiction. It’s often labeled feminine, but it carries layers: power, playfulness, nostalgia, softness, rebellion. In this series, I chose a dusty, warm pink that feels modern and grounded — more calming than sweet. It brings a sense of safety and serenity, like a warm light washing over your favorite corner of the room.
As an artist, I use color to speak where words fall short. In A Study in Pink, pink becomes the emotional language — a space where the plants can live, and where we, as viewers, can breathe.
The Role of Gold
Gold, used sparingly, acts as a quiet thread of reverence — a touch of the divine. It catches light. It glows against the matte pink. It reminds us to notice the small things, the sacred details we often overlook: the gleam on a leaf, the curve of a stem, the stillness in a room.
Gold in this series is not about opulence. It’s about value — not monetary, but emotional. It marks these quiet moments as worthy of attention.
A Visual Exhale
More than anything, A Study in Pink is about creating a visual exhale — a sense of pause and peace in a world that so often demands the opposite. These pieces ask nothing of you. They invite you in gently and offer a place to rest your eyes, your thoughts, and perhaps even your heart.
Whether you’re drawn to the lush leaves, the calming palette, or the symbolism behind each plant, I hope these paintings give you something to carry — a sense of softness, stillness, or maybe just a new way to look at pink.
